BLOCK PRINT MAKING

A block print is an image printed from a carved and inked surface of a block. Woodblock printmaking was invented in Japan, in the 12th century as a printing method for mass production of books and other publications at temples.

The block print designs I do are carved and hand-printed in limited numbers on handmade Japanese paper. Each print is slightly different and has its own unique texture because they are hand-printed and not digitally copied. With every process done by hand, crafting a block print is a time-consuming and rewarding method of creating art. I take great pride in completing each process with my own two hands, from designing the original graphic to carving and printing the finished piece of work
